Negros Occ passes Resolution for Federalism

The HFMP Provincial Assembly in Isabela in rural central Negros Occidental approved unanimously yesterday a Resolution endorsing a federal form of government.

Mayor Joselito Malabor led the assembly of more than 3,000 as part of the municipality's 13th Tigkalalag Festival.

He said it is essential to empower the people of the 5th District of the province in discussing the merits of federalism for them to embrace it.

Earlier, on September 8, 2017, the Sangguniang Bayan led by Vice Mayor Henry Foscablo passed a Resolution endorsing to President Rodrigo Duterte the shift to a federal form of government.

They said restructuring the form of government will bring about more development to the regions against the current highly-centralized unitary system that develops only the national capital region and key urban centers.

The assembly was attended by top leaders of Hugpong Federal led by Chairman Celso Tizon, National Convenor Peter Lavina, Secretary-General Vergilio dela Cruz, Region XVIII Coordinator Chato Moya, and Negros Occidental Provincial Coordinator Mary Jean Diamante.

The Isabela Assembly was the second of three activities slated in the province during the weekend. The first was the assembly for the Third District held on Saturday at Victorias City attended by over 2,000 and today's Office Blessing for the NIR headquarters in Murcia.
